BEGARHAT: A group of miscreants torched a Hindu temple and two houses in two separate villages of Morrelganj upazila early Saturday.

Police said a group of miscreants set fire to Sarbojanin Puja Mandap at Dumuria village in the upazila in the early hours.

Later, the house of local union unit president of Awami League Narayan Chandra Basu Chowdhury at Bongram village in the upazila was set afire by unidentified miscreants.

The miscreants also at the same time torched the house of one Tapos Das, adjacent to the house of the Awami League leader.

Aslam Uddin, officer-in-charge of Morrelganj thana, visited the spot.

It could not be ascertained immediately who perpetrated the arsons, said police.

Narayan Chandra Basu Chowdhury claimed Jamaat-Shibir activists torched his house in a bid to kill him.
